Choosing your adult scooter

Hoping to avoid the stress of the daily commute, enjoy independence in getting around, save time and get your body moving? Adult scooters can offer a genuine solution for urban mobility.

Adult scooters

The biggest factors to consider before buying an adult scooter are: wheel diameter (these need to be suitable for the types of travel you plan on doing), whether its foldable, its weight, and how reliable it is. All the adult scooters on our website are foldable scooters with bars that are height-adjustable.

Weight and wheel size: the main factors in choosing your foldable adult scooter

The foldable adult scooter you choose will depend on the distances you plan on covering. There are three main types:

- For short distances or if you want to continue using public transport (mixed use), go for light and compact scooters. This will give you a smooth ride and a fairly low weight to carry around. This kind of foldable scooter weighs 3 to 4 kilos and can bear up to 100 kg in weight.

- However, for long trips or if you're hoping to completely remove the need for public transport, go for a scooter with a large wheel (180 mm and above), which will feel much smoother in terms of comfort and exertion. It will be heavier if you need to transport it (4 to 5 kilos). The large-wheel adult scooters we stock are suitable for riders weighing up to 100kg, and measuring up to 1m90 thanks to bars that are height-adjustable.

- You can also get intermediate scooters for adults that are only very slightly heavier than small models, but provide extra comfort and result in better performance (wheel diameters range from 140 to 180 mm). This type of foldable scooter is also ideal for taking onto public transport, although it is a little bulkier than smaller designs.

In any case, go for a well-known brand to prevent issues with reliability, and especially so you can rest assured you won't have trouble sourcing the spare parts you'll inevitably end up needing.

Adult scooters: a way of getting around and getting moving

Getting around by scooter lets you save time on your day-to-day travel and helps you cover much more ground with total ease (perfect for Sunday trips and outings).

Scootering is a workout, too. However, because most people always use the same leg to push themselves along, muscle activity isn't always well balanced. Take care to switch between legs to get both sides of the body working evenly.

Caring for your scooter

To ensure your scooter stays in good condition for longer, remember to tighten the screws every now and then.

Bearings allow the wheels to spin, and they're sensitive to water: feel free to dry them off if needed.

How much should you expect to spend on an adult scooter?

Nomadeshop offers reliable scooters that range in price from €99 to €199, depending on the type. A fairly compact adult scooter with small wheels designed for short trips or mixed use (scooter/metro for example) will set you back about €99. In this category, a micro scooter offers the best value for money on the market. A large-wheel scooter with a shock absorber and other comfort-enhancing features will set you back €169 and €200 and above. Micro and Globber scooters spring to mind. If you're looking to go with a 'mid-point' range, again at leading brandsMicro and Globber, expect to pay around €129 to €159.
