How to choose your Heelys
Heelys is not just a brand, it's the name of a concept and sport conceived in 1999 in the United States. The roller shoes are very popular with children and teenagers because they allow them to have a normal shoe, often with very nice designs and a simple gesture to turn it into a roller shoe. Heelys is not a gadget for kids, it's a discipline in its own right.
As their name suggests, the Heelys allow you to ride with one or two wheels placed in the heel . Also, they are very trendy sneakers. Many Heelys are similar to shoe models of well-known brands that exist on the market. Often it is skater type shoes. At Nomadeshop you can find more than 60 models of roller shoes to suit all tastes!
Which Heelys model to choose?
There are two types of models in the Heelys brand : two-wheeled shoes and one- wheeled shoes on the back of the shoe. Both wheels are better for the youngest (feet from 30 to 36.5) because the basket is more stable. In contrast, single-wheel models will be more manageable and more fun, so beyond 7/8 years, it is better to move towards these models. Some Heelys are available from size 30 to size 47.5!
The wheel of the shoe is removable , it is clipped and easily dislodges with a small tool provided with the shoes. Thus, children can wear the Heelys as classic sneakers and clipping the wheel outside the school where it is often forbidden to wear roller shoes. It takes only a second to clip and unclip a wheel, it is very easy to use and the tool can be hooked to a keychain to always have it on you. Heelys shoes are of very good quality. Knowing that the child's foot is growing rapidly, it is advisable to take one size up for the shoes to last longer.
Learn to ride with the Heelys
For the first tests, opt for a smooth surface without pebbles or sand and equip yourself with protections ( helmet , wrist guards, elbow guards and knee pads ). At first, one needs to learn to find balance, for this it is often necessary to stand at a ramp or a friend. To begin, one must put one foot in front of the other (not side by side) the two points in the same direction. In general, the strongest leg is behind (left foot or right foot, depending on whether you are right-handed or left-handed).
Then, giving a slight impetus with the back foot, lift the tips of your front foot so that the wheel touches the ground. Once you have mastered this movement, raise the front of your back foot and let yourself slide while trying to keep your balance. Remember to always keep your strongest foot forward and lean forward slightly . To brake, simply put the front of the feet on the ground. Another technique is to raise the toes of both feet at the same time so that the back touches the ground.
To train, try to go shopping in Heelys with a caddy: it allows to maintain and manage his balance. Once the basic skills are well acquired, we can try to do tricks, roll back, roll forward, slalom, it's very fun!
How to maintain the Heelys
The Heelys are composed of a shoe, but also wheels and bearings. Thus, to avoid damaging them, it is better to avoid rolling in the sand and in the water , even if it is possible to change the wheels. In most cases, the shoe does not become damaged before the child grows up.
