What is a surfskate?
The surfskate is, as its name suggests, a skateboard that allows you to surf ... on dry land! Thanks to its articulated front truck, the skater can reproduce the same movements and figures as a surfboard. Very easy to learn, because very intuitive, skatesurfing can gain speed without ever having to put your foot on the ground, thanks to the pumping movement found in surfing. With the simple displacement of the weight on the board, it is then possible to increase the speed of the skatesurf, but also to take narrow turns and perform complex slaloms.
How to choose your skatesurf?
Functioning differently from the traditional skateboard, the skateboard must be the subject of a particular selection to adapt as well as possible to its future owner.
The type of skateboard truck
To choose a skateboard , 2 types of trucks are possible:
- The spring loaded truck provides smooth pumping and a rather tight steering angle. This type of truck then offers movement and sensations very similar to those of surfing. The spring loaded skateboard truck is recommended for people who are new to skateboarding or surfing, as it offers less stability.
- The springless truck is more for beginners because it is more stable. Its pumping, closer to that of a skateboard than that of a surf, is perfect for carving or for moving forward without putting your foot on the ground, but also for the bowl or the skate-park.
The type of surfboard skate
The shape of a surfskate's board varies mainly according to its length and width. So a long surfskate board offers great stability and a long wheelbase, perfect for beginners, or tall people. Conversely, a shorter surfskate board is more suitable for initiates or small riders.
As for the width of the board, the higher it will be, the more the skater will benefit from great stability, and therefore greater safety.
A surfskate wheel is chosen according to its size, hardness and shape, and has an influence on the behavior of the board. Thus, the wheels of a surfskate are large (65 to 75 mm), in order to be able to adapt to different floor coverings. The grip and adaptation to all surfaces will be all the more effective if the surfskate wheel is soft, with a hardness of 78A on average.
For bowls and skate parks, we recommend smaller, less soft wheels, more suited to smooth surfaces.
